RJD America LLC is a railroad equipment ownership, restoration, and management company founded and operated by experienced railroad professionals. Our team brings decades of direct industry knowledge spanning steam, diesel, and electric locomotive operations; passenger and freight service; mechanical systems; railroad safety; technology; and regulatory compliance.
We are active and former railroaders committed to preserving historically significant equipment and returning it to meaningful use. Our work combines respect for railroad history with professional project management, modern operating standards, and long-term private investment.
RJD America acquires and manages historically significant locomotives, passenger cars, and support equipment as part of a growing privately owned railroad fleet.
RJD America coordinates comprehensive mechanical restoration, system upgrades, regulatory inspections, and modernization work intended to return historic railroad equipment to safe, reliable, and meaningful service.
Our team applies professional railroad experience to equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, movement planning, operating readiness, and future excursion and charter operations.
We preserve important railroad equipment through responsible ownership, historically accurate restoration, long-term investment, education, and continued operation whenever practical.
RJD America’s principal undertaking is the comprehensive restoration of Chesapeake & Ohio Railway No. 614, the last commercially built mainline passenger steam locomotive constructed by Lima-Hamilton.
Built in June 1948, the legendary 4-8-4 Greenbrier is undergoing an extensive mechanical restoration and federally required 1,472-service-day inspection at the Strasburg Rail Road. The project is intended to return No. 614 to safe, reliable, and meaningful operation while preserving its historic character.
In addition to C&O 614, RJD America owns and manages a growing fleet of historic passenger and support equipment.
Our long-term vision is to develop a professionally managed heritage railroad fleet capable of supporting excursions, educational programs, public events, private charters, and preservation initiatives throughout the United States.
RJD America works in partnership with the National Railroad Equipment Preservation Foundation, an independent nonprofit organization supporting railroad education, volunteer engagement, skills development, public outreach, and preservation-related activities. RJD America retains ownership and project management responsibility for C&O 614 and its equipment fleet.
